Peace Light

Faith Church, this Advent we will be custodians of the Peace Light - a flame that originated in Bethlehem.

The Peace Light has been burning in a Bethlehem grotto, the traditional site of the birth of Jesus, for more than 1,000 years.  Each year a child goes into the grotto and brings out a flame.  The flame is transported by air from Israel to Austria and spreads across Europe.  The flame is flown from Europe to New York City in two protective lamps.  The light is then shared across North America (www.peacelight.org).

The Peace Light is a symbol of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, and his message of God’s love for all people.  It serves as a reminder that peace will overcome the darkness of evil and terror.  The Peace Light will be the source of our candlelight for our Advent and Christmas Eve worship services.

The Peace Light is meant to be shared among congregations, families, and individuals.  Some Christians maintain the light in their homes during Advent, to focus their prayers and enhance their preparation for Christmas.  It is suggested that those wishing to obtain and transport the Peace Light use a protective device, like a lantern.  You may obtain a flame from the Peace Light after worship services on Sunday or by arrangement by calling the church office, 724-225-2110.
